Dry skin and eczema
The terms Eczema, Dermatitis and Rash are often used to describe the same condition. Symptoms are a reddening and swelling of the skin which is very itchy and may vary from mild to severe (more). To treat, firstly, replace the moisture that has gone from the skin and secondly, use a treatment product (such as Hydrocortisone or the Avene range) to relieve the redness and irritation.

Hydrocortisone Cream
Hydrocortisone can be helpful to reduce inflammation and irritation in the area. Care needs to be taken using cortisones as it may aggrevate infections. If there is any non-watery discharge from the area, this product would not be recommended. As a rough test to see if cortisones are suitable, gently press on the irritated area and if you see the pressed down area turn white, then cortisones may be helpful. Hydrocortisones should only be used for up to 7 days at a time and not on the face.

Classification: Pharmacy Only Medicine
Purpose/Usage: Mild corticosteroid. Relief of inflammatory and itchy skin conditions such as eczema/dermatitis, psoriasis, severe nappy rash, insect bites, sunburn.
Ingredients/Form: Hydrocortisone 0.5% in a cream
Dosage: Apply sparingly to affected skin one to four times a day. Assess treatment after 7 days and contact your Doctor if symptoms worsen. Wash hands after use.
Precautions: Hypersensitivity to corticosteroids; skin infections; weeping skin wounds; corticosteroid induced adverse reactions; external feminine itching with vaginal discharge; external anal itching with bleeding; skin cancer; acne.

Pinetarsol provides relief of red,itchy and inflamed skin conditions associated with dermatitis, chicken pox, nappy rash, sunburn, prickly heat, hives, insect bites, anal & genital itching and other skin irritations. It is a soap substitute so avoid using soap which may irritate tender inflamed skin. Can be used in the bath or in the shower.
Note: Pinetarsol is Pine Tar based, so has quite a strong smell and is a brown colour.
